News agencies are reporting today that Jess believes she'll have to break the British heptathlon record to stand a chance of winning Olympic gold at next year's London Games.
In 2010 she won the European Championships with a personal best of 6,823, eight points short of the British record held by Denise Lewis. The year before she became World Chanpion with a score of 6,731.
"I'll have to break the British record, definitely," Ennis admitted.
"I think it could take 6,900 points to win and that's going to be really, really tough."
Russia's Tatyana Chernova captured the world title held by Jessica in Daegu in July with a score of 6,880. At the last Olympics in 2008, when Jess was injured, Nataliya Dobrynska of the Ukraine triumphed with 6,733.
RECENT OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS
2008 N Dobrynska (Ukr) 6,733
2004 C Kluft (Swe) 6,952
2000 D Lewis (GB) 6,584
The world record is 7,291, set by American Jackie Joyner-Kersee at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. The news agencies are reporting that Jess has said she'll strictly limit her media work in 2012. In an interview with BBC Sport last month she said she planned to stay away from the Olympic Stadium in the build-up to the Games.
And she added: "When I start competing I will just say no to all the media and other stuff.
"It will all be over before you know it and the main thing now is staying injury-free and being in a position to give yourself the chance on the day."
One thing is for sure, the Sheffield lass will be working hard and her website will be reporting all the way to London!
