Doha. In a word... Awesome!

I have often described good performances by Jessica as, “a good day at the office”; I also said that as a description it hardly seemed to fit the performances in Glasgow, so what on earth can I say about Doha? “Awesome”

British records and high levels of performance have seemed to become common place for Jessica, and worryingly for me an expectation for others.

Jessica Ennis | Coach's Corner

I write “worryingly” because one of the main questions asked of me as Jessica’s coach was

“Where did I think the World Record was missed?”

It’s not worrying to me in the respect of upset, but rather in “how do I help Jessica to continue to improve? How do I as a coach stay ahead of the game?”

The answer is a simple one; while Jessica takes a well earned break I review the performance and then I hit the books, internet and phone to boost my knowledge in search of what’s new and innovative to add to training.

Personal best Indoor performances in Shot Putt (14.01m) and High Jump (1.94m), a lifetime best in Long Jump (6.44m), British Records in 60mH (7.95 secs) and Pentathlon (4937 points) and a World Indoor Championship best in Pentathlon.

What would Jessica have done if she hadn’t had the “niggle” in her foot?

North of England Championships - 'a triple Gold weekend'
Written by Toni Minichiello

Well, Jessica won the 60m in a Championship performance of 7.37secs which is a personal best and a great achievement this early in the season. She also won the Shot Putt in 13.83m an Indoor PB, which after all the hard work this winter by "Team Jennis" is good reward and a strong basis to go forward. Jessica also won the High Jump with 1.89m before attempting a new British Record of 1.96m. We know she can jump, the question know is "how high?"

So all in all a pleasing weekend, a 'triple Gold' weekend to add to the good day at the office.

We are off to Germany now so won't do an update unless I find a little time and internet access.

Glasgow! Wow...
Written by Toni Minichiello

I described the Loughborough meeting as, “a good day at the office”. That description hardly seems to fit the performances in Glasgow.

A British record in the Hurdles 7.95 secs, and an Indoor pb of 1.94m in the high jump, performances that no coach can be disappointed with, and I’m not.

Based the performances achieved last year by Jessica, her Indoor performances were all due for a revision, so it’s not a complete surprise to those who have been working and training with Jessica during this winter. But it’s always nice to see things come to fruition.

I think this the answer as to why Jessica is competing so well, so early in the Indoor season. My plan has always been to continue the heavy training to this point and do the final winding down, sharpening into the World Indoors from the end of February.

So where do we go from here? I suppose the answer is to stick to the plan and trust that it’s working.

There is a weekend off from competition for Jessica as we prepare for the National Championships in Sheffield. If the reception from the home town crowd in Sheffield is as big as the Glasgow crowd produced, then we might just see something special.

Check back soon - there's more to come. And keep right up-to-date with the Coach;s Corner blog and more by following on Twitter @JessicaEnnisNet

Cheers,

Toni
